Dr. John C. Hening, a native of the White Mountains of New Hampshire, came to Colorado to attend Western Colorado University in Gunnison, where he earned his undergraduate degree in biology. He became interested in dental school during his junior year and went on to earn his dental degree from the University of Colorado in 1992 and spent the next four years serving as a dental officer in the US Navy Dental Corps in Arizona. After that, he made the move to Durango, CO, which he’s called home for over 20 years.
Dr. Hening, who is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, has been serving residents of Durango and the surrounding communities at Junction Creek Family Dentistry ever since, helping patients build healthy, beautiful smiles. Dr. Hening is passionate about earning your trust and respect and providing life-changing dental care so you can enjoy eating comfortably and smiling confidently for a lifetime.
You’re in expert hands with Dr. Hening, has completed training from Spear Education. He maintains active affiliations in other respected organizations like:

Dr. Hening is also a member of the Dental Lifeline Network, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing quality dental care to those in need. He’s given his time and skills to regional mission work, too, teaching local schools about the importance of oral hygiene and health, volunteering with Colorado Mission of Mercy, and treating the community’s homeless and disabled veterans as part of a dental implant training initiative in Phoenix, AZ.
Patients are loyal to him because of his honesty, integrity, and expertise in a wide variety of services. Dr. Hening prides himself on providing gentle care, and his patients can feel the difference! In fact, Dr. Hening’s favorite part of the job is seeing a patient sit up after treatment and say, “That was not bad at all!”

When he’s not hard at work for our patients, Dr. Hening and his wife, Etoile, love spending time with their family in the stunning Colorado outdoors. They especially enjoy hiking, camping, biking, and skiing in the rugged, towering mountains surrounding Durango.
